Beth Whitman has been teaching
at Island Fabrics Etc since 2002. Prior to that, she taught math
to middle school students.
Beth has been quilting since the
late 1960’s, when she designed wedding apparel with quilting motifs.
Seldom using a purchased pattern, she designs many of her quilts from
ideas that she sees in magazines, in nature, and in man-made structures
using both traditional and art quilt methods. As a teacher, she
encourages students to try new techniques.
She has earned several blue
ribbons, merit awards, and a best of show for her quilts at county
fairs. One quilt was juried into an APNQ show in Seattle. Most
recently, she was invited to submit a 3-D textile entry to the Latimer
Textile Museum in Tillamook, Oregon.
Beth tries to keep up on the
latest tools and techniques to teach her students. It’s always her
pleasure to see students get excited about their classes and feel good
about what they accomplish.
